Stanley James Nasby, age 64, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Des Plaines IL, died Sunday, April 29, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the Army. He is survived by his wife Carlene; and daughter Julia and Ben Kia of Forest Hills; granddaughter Rachel Kia; brother and sister: James and Annette Nasby of Skokie IL. Peni Nasby of Chicago IL; sister in law: Rita Ann Turner of Grand Rapids; two nephews, James and Robert and a niece Genevieve Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2007 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church 2750 Burton Street SE in Grand Rapids. Msgr. Ernest P. Schneider will be officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Fairplains Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home 4291 Cascade Road in Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to The Polish Genealogical Society of America, 984 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago IL 60622. Arrangements are by Lakeshore Memorial Services in Holland. BTW, his duty in Vietnam was in the motor pool where his gang did a lot of horse trading and improvising to keep as many vehicles rolling as possible for numerous units. Of course, the Army sent him to school to become a dental technician; but he talked his way into the motor pool instead.
