Rural folks are supposed to be relatively unsophisticated, and of course they're supposed to be for the war. Clearly they all have a mentality of "fuck the towel-heads!"
All of this makes this article rather surprising. I doubt any city newspaper would have dedicated anywhere near that much ink to a soldiers funeral. I also doubt it would have been anywhere near as well-written.
The accompanying photo-essay is likewise nothing short of spectacular.
So, next time you hear someone ranting about the "red necks" and their "ass-backward view of the world", you might remind them that we all weep the same tears and bleed the same blood. We're all in this together.
